Scottish singer and songwriter Amy Macdonald was born on the 25th of August, 1987, in Bishopbriggs, East Dunbartonshire. The 27-year old taught herself how to play the guitar and to sing, beginning to perform for live audiences at the age of 15 in Glasgow.

It wasn’t until 2006 that she got her big break after sending in a demo tape to a music competition she had seen in an entertainment magazine. She surprised songwriter Pete Wilkinson with her writing skills, being so young and able to create such memorable music at such an early age without any formal training.

Amy spent the next few months following the contest working with Wilkinson on music in an attempt to achieve recognition from a record label. In 2007 this finally happened, with the record label Vertigo signing Amy on. She released her debut album this same year, with her song titled “This is the Life” reaching number one on the music charts in several countries in Europe. It was so popular in Poland that it was used as the theme song for a legal drama television series. The album shared the same title and reached number one in the United Kingdom, Denmark, Switzerland, and the Netherlands.

Her second album, A Curious Thing, features song inspirations from friends, family, celebrities, and other regular people. This album was released in 2010.

Since then, she has released a few more albums. She has also won acclaim with awards, naming her one of the “best newcomers” to come onto the music scene in 2008 and 2009.
