This small, ocean-side city is one that will surprise you. It offers history, science, nature, art and events for everyone.
Built around the River Avon, Bristol has a short coastline on the Sevem Estuary which flows into the Bristol Channel. The Port of Bristol was the original industrious center of the city, but today these docks serve as the center for heritage and culture. You’ll enjoy seeing the wide variety of architecture in Bristol.
Bristol has a high concentration of aerospace industry, media and information technology. In addition to Airbus and Rolls-Royce, one of the city’s important and interesting companies is Cameron Balloons, who manufacture hot air balloons. In August you can see the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, one of Europe’s largest hot air balloon events.
Bristol is known for its art…in various forms. It has wonderful galleries and is considered to be the “street art capital of Europe”. You’ll love the Bristol Old Vic theatre. The city is also famous for its music and film industries. Bristol has a lot of live music venues to see concerts. In 2010 the PRS (Performing Rights Society) for music called Bristol “the most musical city” in the UK, based on the number of its members born in Bristol in relation to the size of its population.
