Literal definition: bounce + back = to rebound or return by bouncing, back toward the direction from where it originated

He was hit in the face when the basketball bounced back off the rim of the basket.

She played by throwing the ball to the wall and catching it when it bounced back to her.

 

Figurative definition 1: bounce back = to recover after an illness, disability; return to a good condition after difficult time emotionally

He bounced back after spending a couple weeks in the hospital from the car accident.

The ugly divorce has made it very difficult for her to bounce back.
